Revelator Show 278: Beasto Blanco
On this episode of The Revelator Show, I welcome music guests Chuck Garric and Calico Cooper from the band Beasto Blanco. We talk about the band’s third studio album We Are that was released on May 24, 2019 via Rat Pak Records. We Are is the follow up album to their highly successful 2016 self-titled sophomore release Beasto Blanco.
Chuck started the interview as the band was en-route to Memphis for a headlining show. Chuck and I talk about the band’s tour with Halestorm and the opportunity to play some areas that band had not played and how they can reach a demographic the band has not tapped into.
The band’s first single and video “Seeker” was directed, scored and stared Calico Cooper. Calico talked about the team she brought on for shooting the music video. She talked about the differences between shooting what she typically shoots for commercials compared to what a music video comes to be. Calico also did the special effects, and costumes made with her bare hands. Calico said to Chuck after a long day of shooting while covered in blood “Wow, we really pulled this off”. The video for “Seeker” is a must watch. https://youtu.be/e8tIhwMFy4o
I wished Calico a happy belated birthday. She shared her birthday experience at a venue the band was playing at. She talked about hanging with fans after the show, some who drove over 5 hours to see.
Calico and I also talked about her on stage persona, The Motor Queen and how her stage performance is a spontaneous barrage of her jumping off something 10 feet in the air, swinging a bat, manikin arms or firing a fire extinguisher over the crowd. Calico talks about the songs Solitary Rave & Perception of Me off the new album We Are. She mentions how some people compare her to her farther Alice Cooper and even worse, people saying your mom is so hot and you look like her. Helpful tip here, don’t do that. Calico is top level performer who has her own style. She listens to the Phantom of The Opera original soundtrack before taking the stage each night.
Chuck closes the interview about talking about helping Calico as a song writer and setting her up for success on stage. Chuck talked about the band’s recent heavy touring schedule and the hard work the band has been putting in. Chuck said,” The beautiful thing about it is, that we are really becoming a band”. Beasto Blanco is a forever moving process and the band has a chance to make its own way. Every song off the new album will get it’s due live.
