We Came As Romans: The Hard Drive Live Tour at The War Memorial Auditorium.

While I was in the photo pit last night at the War Memorial Auditorium  for the Hard Drive Live tour in Nashville; the band We Came As Romans were just getting into their second song of their set list when vocalist Kyle Pavone took an unexpected guitar shot to the eye knocking him to the drum riser. Well, who’s ever expecting a guitar neck shot to the eye? The band took about 20-30 seconds before completely stopping the song when they realized Kyle was not getting to his feet.

This as a photographer is always a fine line. Do I photo the injured bloody singer?  Surely I could get a lot of traction and or hits for capturing a bizarre event like that on stage. There is a part of me that wanted to shoot the aftermath in full. I also think some integrity and couth is also needed because of not knowing how sever his injury was.

We Came As Romans other vocalist Dave Stephens came to address the crowd after the band had cleared the stage to tend to their fallen brother.

I’ve yet to see an update on Kyle Pavone on the bands website but I know he was taken to a local medical facility in the Nashville area for further observation. I can only guess some stitches for his face and the back of his head will be needed. (I’d also like to add the Novocain shots for these are painful and worse than the actual stitching). I hope Kyle makes a speedy recovery and is able to continue on the remaining tour dates the band has scheduled.

We Came As Romans in pure punk rock form reclaimed the stage to resounding roar from the crowd. They would kick off their set from the top and put on a furious set for the crowd in attendance.  Dave Stephens powered the now 5 piece band through vocally as best he could. I feel he did a more than adequate job. I’ve got a feeling he’ll be resting his voice some today after the extra work load on stage.

This was my first time seeing We Came As Romans live and despite them not being at full strength I was very impressed with their musicianship and overall stage presence. Circle pits and eye patches. Slam dancing and kart wheel kicks in the mosh pit! We Came As Romans!
